A bombshell new theory is shaking up the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie — and it points to something far more sinister than a random crime.

The 84-year-old vanished from her Tucson home in the early hours of February 1. Now, a former Arizona lawman is warning this may have been a carefully orchestrated abduction involving multiple people.

“This wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment crime,” retired Pima County detective Kurt Dabb said. “This looks planned.”

And his reasoning is raising serious concerns.

Dabb, who previously worked with the same agency now investigating the case, believes the masked suspect caught on doorbell footage didn’t act alone.

“I believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices,” he said.

According to the veteran investigator, the scale and coordination required to pull off the crime would be overwhelming for a single individual.

“The logistics of something like this are too much for one person to handle,” he added.

Even more chilling — Dabb believes Nancy may have been watched before she was taken.

He says the suspect — or suspects — likely conducted surveillance on the property ahead of time, studying the home’s layout and possibly even its security setup.

“It’s more than likely the home was canvassed prior,” he explained. “That kind of planning doesn’t happen overnight.”

Dabb also dismissed theories that the incident could have started as a break-in gone wrong.

“Burglars don’t show up with a full backpack,” he said bluntly. “This was a kidnapping.”

His assessment lines up with growing speculation among law enforcement experts that Nancy may have been specifically targeted.

As the investigation stretches into its eighth week, Nancy’s family is growing increasingly desperate for answers.

On March 21, her daughter, Today show host Savannah Guthrie, and other relatives issued an emotional message to the Tucson community — urging anyone with information to come forward.

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring from neighbors, friends, and the people of Tucson,” the family shared. “We are all family now.”

But they also delivered a chilling reminder:

“Someone knows something.”

The family is asking residents to review security footage and think back to key dates — including the night of January 31 and the early hours of February 1 — in hopes that even the smallest detail could crack the case.

So far, no suspects have been publicly identified.

And as the days pass, one question continues to haunt investigators and loved ones alike:

Was Nancy Guthrie the victim of a carefully planned abduction — and if so, why?
