Tiger Woods’ latest comeback has come to a screeching halt — and this time, it’s off the course.
The golf legend announced he’s stepping away from the sport to seek treatment following a shocking DUI arrest tied to a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods said in a statement shared on social media.
He added that he’s taking time away “to seek treatment and focus on my health,” calling the move necessary to prioritize his well-being and work toward “lasting recovery.”
Woods also asked for privacy as he deals with the fallout, saying he hopes to return “healthier, stronger, and more focused” both personally and professionally.
The statement came just after Woods pleaded not guilty, waived his arraignment, and requested a jury trial.
According to court documents, the 15-time major champion was arrested after a rollover crash, with deputies reporting multiple signs of impairment at the scene. Officers said Woods appeared sweaty, sluggish, and had bloodshot, glassy eyes with extremely dilated pupils.
Investigators say Woods admitted he was distracted just before the crash — looking down at his phone and changing the radio — and didn’t notice traffic slowing ahead.
After his arrest, authorities reportedly found two white pills in his pocket later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid.
Despite the alarming situation, Woods registered a 0.00 on two Breathalyzer tests. However, he refused to submit to a urine test, leading to an additional charge.
This isn’t the first time Woods has faced trouble behind the wheel. Back in 2017, he was arrested under similar circumstances after being found asleep in a running vehicle following the use of prescription medication.
The latest crash also raises concerns given his history of serious injuries. Woods suffered devastating leg damage in a 2021 rollover accident that required multiple surgeries — injuries he referenced during field sobriety testing.
The timing couldn’t be worse for the golf icon. Woods had just returned to competition earlier this month after additional back procedures and an Achilles repair, and was reportedly working toward playing in the Masters.
Now, those plans are off the table.
He had also been eyeing the U.S. Senior Open later this year, but his immediate future remains uncertain as he steps away to focus on recovery.
