Elderly Woman Found Alive After Being Stuck in Mud Puddle for 3 Days

A missing Minnesota woman was found alive after spending days trapped in a muddy puddle where she feared she might never get out.

Kathryn Woessner, 68, had last been seen on June 3 before two men discovered her on June 6, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Mike Gravalin and Adam Sandbeck found Woessner stuck in the mud, where she told them she had been stranded for days.

According to the sheriff’s office, Woessner did not have any personal belongings with her when she was found.

Woessner told the men her car had become stuck, and she was trying to get out when she walked around to the other side of the vehicle. That is when she slipped and fell into a muddy puddle that was about 2 feet deep, Gravalin and Sandbeck told KSTP.

The mud felt like quicksand, Woessner told the men.

She said she had been stuck on her back for days before they found her. Gravalin and Sandbeck said she had a serious sunburn on her face by the time she was rescued.

Because of her medical conditions, Woessner was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, according to the sheriff’s office.

The terrifying rescue came after several days of concern for the missing 68-year-old, who was ultimately found alive in conditions her rescuers described as dangerously difficult to escape.
