Woman Killed After Two Jet Skis Collide and Throw 4 People Into River

A 26-year-old woman was killed after two jet skis collided in New York City, sending four people into the water and leading to the arrest of a New Jersey man.

The deadly crash happened around 10 p.m. Saturday, June 20, near Randall’s Island, according to the New York Police Department.

Police said officers responded to a jet ski crash in the Harlem River. A preliminary investigation found that a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were riding on one jet ski when it collided with another jet ski carrying a 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.

The impact threw all four people into the water.

The 26-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, police said. She was transported by jet ski to the NYPD Harbor repair dock on Randall’s Island before emergency crews rushed her to a hospital in Harlem.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities have not yet publicly released her name, pending notification of her family.

The following day, police arrested 27-year-old Yeisson Reyes-Rodriguez of Passaic, New Jersey. He was charged with manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter at the NYPD’s 25th Precinct, according to police.

Jail records show Reyes-Rodriguez is being held at the Eric M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island. His bail has been set at $25,000.

His next court date is scheduled for Friday, June 26. It was not immediately clear whether he had obtained an attorney.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.
