Newly released video captured the terrifying moment a Las Vegas school bus struck a 17-year-old girl riding an electric scooter as her friend watched nearby.
The serious crash happened at about 1:20 p.m. on Jan. 12 near Tenaya Way and Lake Mead Boulevard in the western part of the city.
Footage obtained by 8 News Now shows the school bus traveling south on Tenaya Way before crossing Lake Mead Boulevard. Two teenagers riding electric scooters can then be seen leaving a shopping plaza parking lot and entering a bike lane.
Video recorded by a second bus traveling behind the first shows one of the teenagers colliding with the side of the school bus and being thrown onto the pavement.

The bus was reportedly traveling nearly 40 mph at the time of the impact.
The teenage girl suffered serious injuries to her elbow and wrist and required surgery, according to the report.
The Clark County School District later agreed to pay the 17-year-old $200,000 to help cover medical expenses connected to her operations and treatment.
The frightening incident comes amid growing concern over electric scooter crashes involving children and teenagers in Clark County.
Data from the Clark County School District Police Department showed that more than 140 electric scooter crashes involving riders under the age of 18 were reported between August 2025 and May 2026.
Authorities are urging parents to make sure young riders understand traffic laws, wear helmets and avoid riding unsafe vehicles on public roads.
“Parents just really need to realize what they’re buying their kids,” CCSD Police Lt. Michael Campbell told 8 News Now. “Get a helmet on your kid. Tell them to slow down and abide by the laws. But if it doesn’t have pedals, it shouldn’t be on the road.”
