Grim video and photos show authorities hauling a capsized boat from New York Harbor after a deadly accident near Liberty Island killed a young mother and her 5-month-old daughter.
The 22-foot white bowrider was pulled from the water by an NYPD Harbor Unit boat after it flipped late Saturday night with 14 people on board.
The chilling footage shows the overturned vessel being lifted from the harbor as police and emergency crews continued investigating the tragedy.
Authorities said the boat capsized shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday near Liberty Island.
Two passengers were killed in the accident: 27-year-old Sara Sanchez of College Point, Queens, and her infant daughter, 5-month-old Antonella Garcia.
Sanchez’s boyfriend, who is also the baby’s father, was reportedly aboard the boat when it overturned.
Eleven other passengers were rescued from the water and transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
Police sources said the vessel was dangerously overcrowded at the time of the accident.
The boat’s captain, 46-year-old Manuel Hernandez of Manhattan, was later charged with 13 counts of reckless endangerment. Additional charges could still be filed as authorities continue their investigation.

The deadly accident unfolded within sight of one of the country’s most famous landmarks and quickly triggered a major emergency response on the water.
Investigators are now working to determine exactly what caused the boat to capsize and whether overcrowding or other factors played a role in the disaster.
The investigation remains ongoing.
