Plane Carrying Singer Crashes and Bursts Into Flames

A plane carrying popular Brazilian singer Rey Vaqueiro crashed and burst into flames Sunday after overshooting a runway during landing, but all eight people on board survived without serious injuries.

The Cessna 550 Bravo went off the runway and crashed into a wooded area near an airfield in Parelhas in northeastern Brazil early Sunday morning.

Dramatic video shared online shows flames engulfing the aircraft after both engines caught fire.

Vaqueiro, 26, was traveling with five members of his entourage and two pilots. All eight people managed to survive the crash.

The singer has built a large following in Brazil, with his most popular Spotify song racking up more than 37.7 million streams.

Firefighters spent roughly five hours bringing the blaze under control.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, but local fire chief Lima Verde suggested the aircraft may have suffered brake failure, causing it to overshoot the runway.

Investigators have said there appeared to be no problems with the runway itself.

The 20-year-old plane also reportedly had a valid airworthiness certificate that was not due to expire until May 2027.

Following the crash, Vaqueiro released a statement confirming that everyone on board was safe and receiving necessary medical care.

The singer is known for songs including “Displicente – Ao Vivo” and “Veraozao (Ta Color).”

His scheduled performances Sunday in Custódia and Canhotinho were canceled because of the accident.

Parelhas Mayor Tiago Almeida also addressed the crash, saying the community had been shaken by the unexpected emergency.

“It’s unimaginable to think about a plane crash in Parelhas. But it happened,” Almeida wrote on Instagram.

He praised local health professionals and emergency crews for responding quickly and helping those involved.

Vaqueiro’s concert scheduled for Monday in Parambu was also canceled.

The singer still has another eight performances scheduled this week, although it remains unclear whether those shows will go ahead.

The crash happened as Vaqueiro was nearing the halfway point of his “Septembro do Rey” tour across Brazil.
