A Krispy Kreme delivery driver in Philadelphia returned from an early-morning delivery to discover something much bigger than a few missing doughnuts — the entire truck was gone.
The white 2023 GMC delivery truck was stolen shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, from a Royal Farms parking lot in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood, according to police and local reports.
The driver had stopped at the Royal Farms on the 2500 block of Church Street to make a delivery when the vehicle was taken. Philadelphia police were called to the scene shortly before 5:30 a.m., according to 6abc.
Fortunately for the driver, the truck did not disappear for long.
The vehicle was tracked to the 1300 block of East Erie Avenue in the nearby Kensington neighborhood, where Philadelphia police recovered it, CBS Philadelphia reported.
But the truck’s cargo apparently wasn’t left completely untouched.
Police said an unknown number of doughnuts were missing along with an iPhone that had been inside the vehicle. Authorities have not disclosed the value of the stolen food or phone.
No arrests had been announced as of Tuesday afternoon, and police said the investigation remains ongoing.
The unusual theft came during an especially busy morning for Philadelphia police.
Just hours earlier, officers were called to the 3300 block of South Third Street after thieves targeted a tractor-trailer carrying beef.
Police said a group broke the truck’s hinges and stole a pallet of beef before fleeing in a pickup truck and SUV. The driver was reportedly away from the vehicle when that theft occurred.
There has been no indication from authorities that the beef theft and the Krispy Kreme truck theft are connected.
Police were still searching for suspects in both cases Tuesday.
