A grieving Arizona father was arrested after courtroom video captured him charging at the man convicted of murdering his son-in-law and repeatedly punching him during an emotional sentencing hearing.
The explosive confrontation unfolded Sept. 22 inside Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix, where 55-year-old Alberto Ontiveros Sanchez had just addressed the judge about the killing of his son-in-law, 27-year-old David Navidad-Parra.
Sanchez had finished speaking and was walking back toward the courtroom gallery when he suddenly turned toward convicted killer Abel Uribe.
Video from inside the courtroom shows Sanchez rushing toward the defense table and striking Uribe several times in the back of the head.
According to court records cited by FOX 10 Phoenix, Uribe was handcuffed and wearing leg restraints at the time. The attack caused immediate chaos, forcing the judge to clear the courtroom and temporarily stop the sentencing hearing.
Sanchez was arrested following the outburst.
During his first court appearance, his attorney said the grieving father had “lost it” after allegedly seeing Uribe “laughing and snickering” during the proceedings.
The judge acknowledged the intense emotions surrounding the case but made clear that violence inside a courtroom could not be tolerated.
“I personally can’t imagine the emotions that you must have been feeling today,” the judge told Sanchez, according to FOX 10. “But we cannot tolerate that kind of conduct in court.”
Sanchez was ultimately released on his own recognizance.

The dramatic courtroom scene came nearly four years after Navidad-Parra was murdered during what began as an ordinary private car sale.
Phoenix police said Navidad-Parra disappeared in December 2022 while giving a prospective buyer a test drive of a vehicle on West Coronado Road.
His body was later discovered near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road with a gunshot wound.
The vehicle involved in the sale was later found burned in Glendale.
Uribe eventually pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
He appeared in court this week to receive his punishment and was sentenced to life in prison.
Navidad-Parra was also identified by FOX 10 as a U.S. Army captain, adding another painful layer to a case that has stretched on since 2022.
For Sanchez and his family, the sentencing was supposed to mark the end of the criminal case against the man responsible for Navidad-Parra’s death.
Instead, it produced another shocking chapter when years of grief and anger boiled over in front of the judge — and the entire confrontation was captured on courtroom cameras.
