2 Siblings and Dad Found Dead in Horrifying Family Tragedy

A Florida mother made a heartbreaking discovery when she arrived at her former partner’s home to pick up their two young children, only to find both kids and their father dead in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

The children, 7-year-old Remy Dingwall and his 5-year-old sister, Aria Dingwall, were found Wednesday, October 7, inside a home in Cocoa, Florida, about 45 miles east of Orlando.

Their father, 37-year-old Joseph Kyle Dingwall, was also discovered dead inside the residence.

According to Cocoa police, evidence collected at the scene indicates that Dingwall killed his two children before taking his own life.

The tragedy has devastated the children’s mother, Olivia Piccolo, who had arrived expecting to take Remy and Aria home for her scheduled parenting time.

Instead, she found herself making a desperate 911 call after discovering that all three were unresponsive.

The disturbing case has left investigators searching for answers about what happened inside the family home and what could have led to the deaths of two innocent children.

According to Police Chief Evander Collier IV, Piccolo arrived at the home on Sorrento Drive shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The children had reportedly missed school that morning, and their mother had been unable to reach Dingwall.

Concerned about their whereabouts, she went to the house to check on them.

When she arrived, the front door was partially open.

Piccolo entered the residence and discovered the bodies of her children and their father.

She immediately called 911.

Officers with the Cocoa Police Department responded to the home shortly after noon and confirmed that all three were dead.

Crime scene investigators and detectives were called in to examine the residence, collect evidence and determine what had happened.

Authorities quickly began treating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.

During a news conference Thursday, October 8, Collier confirmed that investigators believe Dingwall was responsible for his children’s deaths.

Police also said the evidence suggested he subsequently died by suicide.

The medical examiner’s investigation and other forensic work were still ongoing, and authorities had not publicly established a motive.

But a disturbing account from a neighbor has raised questions about what may have happened hours before the bodies were discovered.

Marcos Garcia, who lives across the street, told local television station WESH that he heard what sounded like two gunshots shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Garcia said the noises were loud enough to catch his attention while he was preparing to go to sleep.

He recalled checking his home’s security cameras after hearing the sounds.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed a man emerging from the neighboring residence with a flashlight and walking around outside before returning indoors.

Another recording obtained by WFTV appeared to show a man pacing in circles near the house.

However, investigators have not publicly confirmed whether the person captured on camera was Dingwall or whether the sounds Garcia heard were connected to the deaths.

The footage could nevertheless provide investigators with important information as they attempt to reconstruct the final hours inside the home.

Police are also examining the family’s history and any previous calls for service involving the residence.

According to local reporting, law enforcement had responded to the address on multiple occasions before Wednesday’s tragedy.

Those earlier calls reportedly involved medical matters and suspicious activity, although authorities have not established whether any of those incidents were connected to the deaths.

Investigators have not announced evidence of a previous threat against the children or publicly identified any warning signs that could explain the apparent killings.

For now, the unanswered questions have added to the anguish surrounding the case.

While detectives continue their investigation, the children’s loved ones are remembering Remy and Aria as two inseparable siblings whose lives were cut tragically short.

A fundraiser established to support their grieving mother describes Remy as a bright, thoughtful and protective older brother.

The 7-year-old loved video games, music and spending time with his friends.

Family members said he was enrolled in a gifted program at school and showed remarkable intelligence and determination.

They also remembered him as someone who took his role as a big brother seriously.

Remy was fiercely protective of his little sister and deeply devoted to his mother.

Aria, meanwhile, was remembered as a cheerful and compassionate 5-year-old who brought happiness to the people around her.

The little girl loved animals, colorful toys and almost anything pink.

She also had a particular fondness for squishy dumpling toys, a small detail that her family says perfectly captured her playful personality.

Loved ones described the children as best friends who shared a close bond.

Although they were only two years apart, their relationship was filled with the kind of affection, laughter and occasional sibling disagreements that make childhood memories so special.

Now, the family is mourning all the experiences they will never get to share.

Remy and Aria will never have the opportunity to grow up together, celebrate future birthdays, graduate from school or build the adult lives their family had imagined for them.

Their loved ones expressed that heartbreak in a message shared through the fundraiser.

“Remy and Aria were siblings, best friends, and each other’s little world,” the family wrote.

The statement continued by remembering the childhood moments the children should have experienced together, from making each other laugh to looking after one another as they grew older.

The family’s words have resonated with members of the community who are struggling to comprehend the loss.

Cocoa Mayor Michael C. Blake also expressed his sympathy, urging residents to support Piccolo and her family during an extraordinarily difficult time.

Neighbors described the family as relatively quiet and recalled occasionally seeing the children playing outside.

One resident told WESH that he had recently seen the children’s mother near his home, making the news of their deaths even more difficult to comprehend.

The tragedy has also drawn attention to the emotional consequences of domestic violence and family-related homicide.

Although investigators have not publicly identified a motive or established a history of domestic abuse in this particular case, experts recognize that children can become victims during periods of serious family conflict.

Such tragedies can leave surviving relatives struggling with grief, unanswered questions and the sudden loss of multiple family members.

For Piccolo, the emotional devastation is especially profound.

She arrived at the house expecting to collect her son and daughter.

Instead, she became the person who discovered their deaths.

Family friends have since organized two separate fundraising campaigns to help her with funeral expenses and the immediate financial burdens resulting from the tragedy.

The campaigns have also become places where people can share condolences and offer support to the grieving family.

Meanwhile, the police investigation remains active.

Detectives are continuing to review evidence, interview witnesses and examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Cocoa Police Department has described the case as an isolated incident and said there is no continuing threat to the public.

Authorities have not publicly released a final timeline establishing precisely when each person died.

They also have not explained what may have prompted Dingwall’s alleged actions.

As the investigation continues, officials are expected to rely on forensic findings, witness accounts and other evidence to establish a clearer picture of what happened.

But no investigative finding can undo the loss confronting Remy and Aria’s family.

The two children were at the beginning of their lives, with years of school, friendships, celebrations and family memories still ahead of them.

Remy was a bright young boy who loved his sister, and Aria was a spirited little girl who adored animals and everything pink.

Their family wants them remembered for those qualities rather than solely for the circumstances of their deaths.

For a grieving mother who expected to bring her children home Wednesday afternoon, the loss is almost impossible to comprehend.

And as the Cocoa community rallies around Olivia Piccolo, loved ones are determined to keep the memories of Remy and Aria alive.
