A terrifying crash in New Jersey sent a school bus carrying two children rolling over multiple times Tuesday morning after a pickup truck slammed into the vehicle, leaving three people hospitalized.
The frightening collision unfolded shortly after 7 a.m. on November 3 at the intersection of Kings Highway and East Wolfert Station Road in East Greenwich Township, Gloucester County, turning what should have been a routine trip to school into a chaotic emergency.
According to police, the pickup truck collided with the smaller school bus with enough force to send it rolling several times before it came to rest along the roadway.
Inside were two students attending Kingsway Learning Center in Voorhees, a fifth grader and a tenth grader, along with the bus driver and an adult passenger.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where they found both vehicles extensively damaged. Aerial footage captured by CBS Philadelphia’s Chopper 3 showed significant front-end damage to the pickup truck and a large dent along the side of the school bus.
The force of the collision raised immediate concerns about the safety of the children aboard, but authorities soon delivered encouraging news.
Both students were evaluated by emergency responders before being transported to Cooper University Hospital for additional medical examinations. Police said their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
An adult passenger traveling on the bus was also examined at the scene and taken to the same hospital with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening.
The school bus driver and the pickup truck driver both declined medical treatment.
Although the crash left three people requiring hospital evaluations, officials said the outcome could have been far worse given the number of times the bus reportedly rolled over.
The bus was operated by Holcomb Bus Service, a transportation company serving schools in the region. Authorities have not disclosed whether either driver was speeding, failed to yield or committed any traffic violations before the collision.
Investigators are now working to reconstruct the crash and determine what caused the vehicles to collide at the intersection.
Police have not announced any charges or citations, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident is another alarming reminder of the dangers school buses can face on busy roads, even during routine morning transportation.
