Teen Indicted for First-Degree Murder in Fatal Stabbing at High School Track Meet

Karmelo Anthony, now 18, has been indicted for first-degree murder in the stabbing death of fellow student Austin Metcalf, 17, during a track meet in Frisco, Texas on April 2. The altercation took place in the stadium bleachers when Metcalf allegedly told Anthony to move from under his school’s team tent. According to witnesses, Anthony warned Metcalf not to touch him, then pulled a knife and stabbed him once in the chest.

Anthony was arrested shortly after and reportedly confessed, claiming self-defense. Prosecutors presented evidence to a grand jury over several weeks before the indictment was handed down. If convicted, Anthony faces five years to life in prison.

Both families have spoken publicly — Metcalf’s father expressing hope for justice, and Anthony’s mother saying her family has faced threats and harassment since the incident. Anthony is currently out on reduced bond under house arrest with strict supervision.

The case, described by the district attorney as one that has “shaken” the community, remains ongoing with no trial date yet set.
