A 6-year-old boy from Maryland tragically died Tuesday morning while visiting New York City with his family, authorities said.

The child was found unresponsive inside a Times Square hotel after suddenly becoming violently ill.

Police responded around 9:40 a.m. to the Hampton Inn on Seventh Avenue near West 41st Street, where they discovered the boy unconscious. According to sources, his parents told officers that he had been sick the night before and had been vomiting during their trip to the city in the midst of the busy holiday season.

The young boy was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities reported that his body showed no signs of physical trauma.

The city’s medical examiner’s office will conduct an official investigation to determine the cause of death.

The heartbreaking incident has shocked both the family and the local community.
