Royal drama just keeps rewriting itself.
A new biography claims Prince William quietly iced out a longtime TV journalist after feeling he sided with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during one of the most explosive royal interviews in recent history.
According to William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story by royal reporter Russell Myers, the future king cut ties with ITV anchor Tom Bradby after the broadcaster fronted the now-infamous 2019 documentary during the Sussexes’ tour of South Africa.
That was the interview.
The one where Harry admitted he and William were on “different paths.”
The one where Meghan revealed that hardly anyone had asked if she was “OK.”
The one that signaled the beginning of the end.
At the time, Tom Bradby — a respected ITV journalist who had covered the royals for years — sat down with the couple for what became a global headline moment. But behind palace walls, the fallout was reportedly far more personal.
Sources quoted in the book claim William felt “betrayed” by someone he had considered a friend. Bradby had long enjoyed access to both brothers during his tenure as royal correspondent for ITV, building what was described as a close rapport with the family.
But insiders allege that changed overnight.
One source claims William believed the documentary crossed an “unspoken boundary,” transforming from objective journalism into something that felt like an endorsement of Harry and Meghan’s version of events.
In William’s world, loyalty matters. And, according to the book, once trust is broken, it’s broken for good.
Another insider described the prince’s approach to trust as “binary.” In other words: you’re either in or you’re out. Once William concluded Bradby had aligned too closely with his younger brother’s narrative, there was reportedly “no realistic path” to repairing the relationship.
The book also suggests William took issue with what wasn’t asked. Specifically, claims that Bradby failed to press Meghan on allegations of internal family tensions that were swirling at the time.
To William, sources allege, that omission sealed the deal.
Meanwhile, Catherine, Princess of Wales, is portrayed as taking a more measured view of the brothers’ fallout. The biography claims she ultimately saw Harry’s departure from royal duties as “inevitable” and accepted she could not force reconciliation between the siblings.
The documentary interview aired months before Harry and Meghan formally stepped back from royal life in early 2020 — a move that reshaped the monarchy and deepened the rift.
Whether or not every detail in the new book lands as fact, one thing is clear: the 2019 interview wasn’t just a turning point for the Sussexes. It may have quietly ended a royal friendship as well.
