A terrifying home invasion has rocked one of Los Angeles’ most exclusive neighborhoods after a wealthy heiress was allegedly beaten and strangled inside her own home.
Margaux Mirkin—reportedly tied to the Budget Rent a Car fortune—was attacked during a violent break-in at her property in the Hollywood Hills.
Police were called to the home on Lookout Mountain Avenue around 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, after reports of a burglary in progress. According to local outlets, several masked men forced their way into the house and assaulted Mirkin, who neighbors later identified as the victim.
Authorities say the suspects allegedly beat and strangled her before stealing cash and jewelry and fleeing the scene.
Mirkin, believed to be in her 70s, was rushed to a hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
The attackers? Still on the loose.
Home records show Mirkin owns the property, which neighbors describe as a massive, sprawling estate tucked into the hills. The shocking crime has left the quiet community shaken.
One neighbor said the situation unfolded in a way that felt almost unbelievable. After noticing something seemed off, they grabbed a flashlight and went to investigate—only to spot people moving around the property.
“I saw them on the hillside carrying items down and loading them into a car,” the neighbor said, adding that the suspects appeared completely unfazed—even while being watched.
Another neighbor expressed disbelief over the incident, saying serious crime is rare in the area.
“This is an absolute shock,” one resident said. “Usually it’s just minor things like mailbox or car break-ins. Nothing like this.”
Mirkin is believed to be the daughter of Morris Mirkin, the late founder of Budget Rent a Car, and has been described by neighbors as a quiet, “normal” resident living a retired life.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released suspect descriptions. The Los Angeles Police Department has not yet issued an official statement.
