A Tennessee husband and wife were seriously burned after their food truck, unfortunately named TNT Tacos, suddenly exploded just one day before their 25th wedding anniversary.
Tiffany and Tim McPherson were preparing for the day inside their taco truck in rural Atwood on June 4 when the vehicle violently blew up, trapping Tiffany as flames erupted around them.
“From the force of the explosion I was blown back against the far wall where our sinks are and I was trapped,” Tiffany wrote on a GoFundMe page created for the couple.
She said Tim, who had been thrown toward the door, could have escaped on his own. Instead, he turned back to save her.
Tim “could’ve easily ran out but chose to come back and get me and drag me out,” Tiffany wrote.
She said her husband ran through “hell” to pull her from the burning truck and get them both out the door to safety.
The couple was airlifted to a hospital in Nashville, more than 100 miles away, after the blast. Both suffered serious second- and third-degree burns across their bodies and have already undergone surgeries, including skin grafting.
The next day, Tiffany and Tim marked their 25th wedding anniversary from their hospital beds, covered in gauze and recovering from the horrific explosion. Photos shared by their daughter, Jada Pastrana, showed the couple still holding hands despite everything they had endured.
“It is truly a miracle and blessing they’re both alive,” Pastrana wrote on the fundraiser.
She said her parents are expected to remain hospitalized for several months and will need more surgeries as they recover.
The blast completely destroyed TNT Tacos. Photos posted to the GoFundMe page showed the charred remains of the food truck.
“Tim and I are survivors and we are in the process of surviving,” Tiffany wrote. “We will always be forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support.”
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by local fire officials.
