A convicted child killer in the UK was stabbed more than 30 times by fellow inmates in a brutal prison-cell attack that lasted less than five minutes, according to reports.
Kyle Bevan, 33, was serving a life sentence for the 2020 murder of his 2-year-old stepdaughter when he was found dead at HMP Wakefield in November.
Three inmates allegedly followed Bevan into his cell on Nov. 4 and launched the deadly attack, prosecutors said Wednesday as the murder trial opened at Leeds Crown Court.
Mark Fellows, 45, David Taylor, 64, and Lee Newell, 57, were allegedly seen on surveillance video leaving Bevan’s cell about four and a half minutes later looking “satisfied,” according to the BBC.
“He was stabbed and injured over 30 times, with at least one and probably more than one weapon,” prosecutor Jason Pitter told jurors.
“Four minutes and 39 seconds — that is how long it took,” Pitter said. “They left as if nothing had happened.”
Prosecutors said the men used a sharp weapon to attack Bevan before moving him onto his bed, where he bled to death.
Pitter said Bevan, who reportedly “kept to himself” inside the prison, was later found with stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.
“They left him for dead, one after the other,” the prosecutor said, according to the Daily Mail.
“Not before, though, putting him to bed. Leaving him as if asleep. And there it was that he, on his bed, bled out. Bled to death, and his body then discovered until the roll call in the prison the following morning.”
Pitter told jurors the alleged goal was clear.
“The purpose was clear — to carry out a joint attack on Kyle Bevan to kill him,” he said.
Prison guards later found a folded piece of metal with Bevan’s blood on it hidden behind a TV, according to reports. Other weapons were reportedly discovered in Taylor’s cell inside a bottle of chili sauce.
Fellows and Newell were also serving life sentences for murder at the time of the alleged attack.
The murder trial is ongoing.
