A quiet Florida community is reeling after a devastating discovery inside a home where a woman was found dead alongside her husband in what investigators say was a murder-suicide.

According to authorities, 40-year-old Lorelei Strickland and her husband, 44-year-old Jarrott Strickland, were found dead on April 6 inside their home in Wewahitchka.

The situation came to light after deputies were called for a welfare check around 12:30 p.m. when Lorelei didn’t show up for work—something coworkers said was completely out of character.

Officers initially went to the home but didn’t find signs of forced entry or anything immediately suspicious. They then checked other places she was known to go before circling back for more information.

At the same time, family and friends grew concerned—and made a heartbreaking discovery.

After entering the home, they found both Lorelei and Jarrott inside a bedroom, each suffering from gunshot wounds.

Investigators later determined that Jarrott allegedly shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. Officials said it appeared the couple had been deceased for some time before they were found.

There were no signs of forced entry, and authorities say there is no indication anyone else was involved.

In the wake of the tragedy, those who knew Lorelei are remembering her as someone who brought light to everyone around her.

A fundraiser created by coworkers describes her as more than just a colleague, calling her “family” and remembering her kindness, laughter, and the way she made people feel seen and valued.

“She could brighten a room with her smile,” the tribute read. “Her absence has left a space that can never truly be filled.”

As the community mourns, the heartbreaking case serves as another reminder of how quickly lives can be shattered behind closed doors.
