American Cruise Passengers Arrested After Assaulting Police in the Bahamas

Five American cruise ship passengers were arrested in the Bahamas after authorities said they assaulted police officers, resisted arrest and caused chaos inside a police station.

Police said the suspects, three women and two men from the United States, were involved in a fight with several other cruise ship passengers at the port in Nassau on Monday evening.

The situation allegedly escalated after the five were taken into custody.

According to police, officers were preparing to search the suspects at a police station when a “violent struggle” broke out.

One woman allegedly picked up a chair and threw it through a glass door, shattering it. Police said one of the men then kicked out the remaining glass and tried to escape.

Video aired by Eyewitness News Bahamas appeared to show a man crawling through the damaged door as officers rushed in to arrest him.

Another video obtained by Our News Bahamas showed people being shoved to the ground during the chaotic confrontation.

Four police officers were injured in the incident, authorities said. One officer suffered a serious injury to his left shoulder and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The five suspects were charged with assaulting a police officer, fighting in a public place, resisting arrest, malicious damage and disorderly behavior in a police station.

They remained in custody as police continued to investigate.
