A routine Southwest Airlines flight to Los Angeles turned tragic Friday morning when a passenger suffered a sudden medical emergency and died despite desperate efforts to save him.
Southwest Airlines Flight 958 was traveling from Dallas to Los Angeles International Airport when the passenger unexpectedly experienced a medical episode and became unresponsive.
Crew members and fellow passengers immediately jumped into action as the frightening situation unfolded thousands of feet in the air.
Good Samaritans reportedly joined the flight crew in performing CPR on the man as the plane continued toward Southern California.
Emergency crews were alerted before the aircraft landed, and paramedics and firefighters were waiting on the tarmac at LAX when the plane arrived.
But despite the efforts made both in the air and after landing, the passenger could not be revived.
Firefighters pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the passenger’s identity, and it remains unclear what caused the sudden medical emergency.
