A Texas woman is suing McDonald’s after claiming a Sausage and Egg McMuffin she bought at a Manhattan location left her seriously ill and caused lasting health problems.
Yvette Hinds says she ordered the breakfast sandwich from the McDonald’s at 51st Street and Broadway in May 2023.
According to a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Hinds claims she had no idea the food was allegedly “contaminated, tainted, injurious, unwholesome” and “wholly unfit for human consumption” when she ate it.
She says she later became sick, suffering nausea along with “severe pains and distress throughout her body.”
The lawsuit, filed on May 26, claims the problems did not stop there.
Hinds alleges she has since undergone multiple “operations, procedures and treatments” and says her physical, mental and nervous systems have been “permanently and seriously” injured.
She also claims the alleged illness has left her unable to perform certain household duties.
The lawsuit accuses the Midtown Manhattan McDonald’s location of negligence in the preparation, storage, handling, inspection, cleaning and service of the food.
Hinds argues the restaurant and its employees acted carelessly and with “willful disregard,” ultimately causing her alleged injuries.
The restaurant’s owner and operator, Paul Goodman, has strongly denied the accusations.
“As a local business owner, I take great pride in serving safe, high-quality food to every customer who walks through our doors,” Goodman said in response to the lawsuit. “We always take matters like these seriously and investigate thoroughly.”
Hinds is seeking monetary damages, with the final amount to be determined at trial. She is also seeking attorney fees and court costs.
The lawsuit comes amid several other recent cases involving customers who have accused McDonald’s of serving unsafe or contaminated food.
Last year, Staten Island resident Louis Spitalieri sued after claiming he bit into a McDonald’s hamburger and discovered a clump of hair and a piece of metal.
Music producer Charles Olsen also sued the fast-food giant last year after alleging that cheese on a Big Mac triggered a severe allergic reaction. Olsen, who has a serious milk allergy, allegedly suffered anaphylactic shock that could have led to respiratory failure.
In another case filed in February 2025, a Brooklyn pastor sued McDonald’s after claiming a “rotten” chicken sandwich caused severe stomach problems.
McDonald’s has not been found liable in Hinds’ case, and the allegations remain part of an ongoing civil lawsuit.
