A woman died Saturday morning after jumping from a luxury apartment building in downtown Los Angeles, according to officials.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it received a report of a possible jumper at 8:51 a.m. in the area of 1200 S. Grand Ave.
Firefighters responded to the scene along with officers from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officials reportedly went to the roof of the building in an attempt to stop the woman from jumping, but they were unable to prevent the tragedy.
The adult woman eventually jumped from the building and was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A fire department official said the woman appeared to have jumped from the seventh floor of the building, although that detail had not been officially confirmed.
Police declined to provide further information about what happened, citing department policy regarding suicides.
An employee at Awesome Coffee, a nearby business, also told The New York Post that a woman had jumped from a building in the area.
Emergency crews remained at the scene as authorities investigated.
Photos from the area showed Los Angeles Fire Department vehicles and police units surrounding nearby streets, with yellow police tape blocking off parts of the neighborhood.
Several streets were temporarily closed while the investigation was underway.
The incident happened only a few blocks east of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The woman’s identity has not yet been publicly released.
Authorities said her name is expected to be released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner after her family has been notified.
Investigators have not released any information about what may have led up to the woman’s death.
