A Minnesota man was arrested at Maine’s Bangor International Airport after police said he became angry over a delay, started yelling at staff and passengers, and then physically resisted officers who tried to detain him.
Jeffrey Wazenegger, 59, was waiting on the tarmac at Bangor International Airport on Saturday, Aug. 29, when authorities said he became “disorderly” because he was upset about the wait.
According to the Bangor Police Department, Wazenegger was allegedly yelling and acting aggressively toward airport employees and other passengers.
Police were called to the scene at around 6:43 p.m.
When officers arrived, authorities said Wazenegger tried to push past them and make his way onto the skybridge.
Officers then attempted to detain him, but police said he physically resisted.
During the struggle, one officer suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.
Wazenegger was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.
He was charged with disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest and assault on a police officer.
The incident came just days after another passenger was arrested at Miami International Airport in a separate case involving an alleged bomb threat.
On Monday, Aug. 31, 33-year-old Yoel Guevara-Crespo of Louisiana was preparing to board a flight to Cuba when a gate agent asked whether he had any lithium batteries or incendiary devices in his luggage, according to an arrest report.
“No, but I have a bomb,” Guevara-Crespo allegedly replied.
He later told authorities that he had been “joking,” but deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Airport Operations Bureau were called to the gate.
Guevara-Crespo was taken into custody without incident, according to the report.
In Wazenegger’s case, police said what began as frustration over an airport wait escalated into a confrontation that ended with an officer injured and the passenger behind bars.
