Four people were found shot inside a North Carolina home Thursday morning, triggering a massive police response as officers rushed inside and began lifesaving measures.
The shooting was reported at about 8:43 a.m. in the 2600 block of Forbes Road in Gaston County, near Gastonia.
When officers entered the large single-family home, they discovered four people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police immediately began providing emergency aid to the victims until Gaston Emergency Medical Services crews arrived and took over.
Authorities have not yet released the names, ages or conditions of the four people who were shot.
Police have also not announced whether anyone has been arrested, identified a possible suspect or revealed what may have led to the violence.
The shooting brought a heavy law enforcement presence to the normally quiet area.
Police cruisers could be seen parked outside the home and lining the surrounding roadway as detectives worked the scene.
Authorities shut down the road and asked residents and drivers to stay away while investigators collected evidence and tried to piece together exactly what happened.
“Gaston County Police detectives are actively investigating the incident,” the department said. “Residents are asked to avoid the area while investigators continue processing the scene.”
The shooting happened near the intersection of Forbes Road and Highway 321, just a short drive from the North Carolina-South Carolina state line and roughly five miles from Gastonia.
The home where the victims were found is described as a five-bedroom single-family residence valued at around $300,000.
As of the latest confirmed reports Thursday, police had not explained whether the four victims knew one another or whether the shooting was believed to have happened entirely inside the home.
Authorities have also not released information about the weapon used or said whether there is any continuing threat to the public.
The Gaston County Police Department said the investigation remains active.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Gaston County Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
