Wealthy Family Found Dead inside Home in Shocking Tragedy

A wealthy New Jersey family was found dead inside their home after authorities say a 61-year-old man killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life.

David Grodnick, 61, his wife, Lora Grodnick, 62, and their 24-year-old daughter, Sloane Grodnick, were discovered inside the family’s Montgomery Township home on Oct. 2.

Authorities said Lora and Sloane each died from gunshot wounds to the head and their deaths were ruled homicides.

David also died from a gunshot wound to the head, with the medical examiner ruling his death a suicide.

Investigators believe the deaths were an isolated incident and said there is no continuing threat to the public.

The disturbing discovery came after Montgomery Township police were asked to conduct a welfare check at the home on Wild Azalea Lane shortly before 3 p.m. on Oct. 1.

Officers initially could not make contact with anyone inside and began investigating the family’s whereabouts.

Police eventually entered the home shortly before 6 p.m. the following day.

Lora and Sloane were found in separate bedrooms.

David was discovered elsewhere inside the home with a firearm in his possession.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed how long the family members had been dead before they were discovered.

Investigators also have not announced a motive.

Detectives from the Montgomery Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

David worked as a senior vice president and underwriting counsel for Land Services USA, a Philadelphia-area company involved in commercial real estate transactions.

He had a background in business and law and had reportedly been active in professional organizations connected to the real estate industry.

Sloane had built an academic career focused on art and design.

She attended The Hun School of Princeton before graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

At the time of her death, she was reportedly pursuing a master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design.

The family had previously lived in Princeton before moving to Montgomery Township.

Their home sat in an affluent residential area of Skillman, a community within Montgomery Township.

Officials emphasized that investigators do not believe there is any danger to neighbors or the surrounding community.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue reviewing evidence and working to determine what led to the deaths.
