Bowling Alley Employee Crushed to Death by Pin-Setting Machine

A 28-year-old woman who was preparing to get married has died following a shocking workplace accident at a bowling alley in Turkey, where she was struck by a malfunctioning pin-setting machine.

Melike Yeter was working at a family entertainment center in Çorum, a city in northern Turkey, when she attempted to fix a problem with the machinery responsible for collecting and arranging bowling pins.

During the repair attempt, the heavy mechanism suddenly moved, striking her with enough force to cause serious internal injuries.

But the tragedy took an even more disturbing turn when Yeter reportedly received emergency treatment and was initially considered well enough to leave the hospital, only for her condition to deteriorate dramatically.

Doctors later discovered that she had suffered a ruptured liver and severe internal bleeding.

Despite further medical treatment, the young woman died from her injuries, leaving her family devastated and raising serious questions about workplace safety and the medical care she received.

According to Turkish news reports, Yeter was injured while attempting to resolve a malfunction in the bowling section of a children’s entertainment center.

The exact circumstances remain under investigation, but local authorities believe she was struck or caught by the machine’s moving components.

Emergency personnel responded, and Yeter was transported to Hitit University Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital.

Initial reports indicate that she underwent medical examinations and was expected to be discharged after approximately two and a half hours.

However, accounts differ about exactly when her condition worsened.

Some Turkish outlets reported that she returned home before becoming seriously ill, while others said she began vomiting and deteriorated during the hospital’s discharge process.

Further testing reportedly revealed the extent of her internal injuries, including a liver rupture that had caused significant bleeding.

Yeter was transferred to intensive care, but doctors were unable to save her.

An autopsy subsequently confirmed that she died from internal bleeding caused by the liver injury.

The death has been especially heartbreaking because Yeter had recently become engaged.

According to local media, she and her fiancé had celebrated their engagement approximately three months earlier and were making plans for their wedding.

Instead of preparing for their future together, her fiancé and family are now mourning her unexpected death.

Reports indicate that her fiancé desperately sought additional medical assistance as her condition worsened, including contacting doctors he knew personally.

The tragedy has prompted a criminal investigation into whether proper safety procedures were followed at the entertainment center.

Authorities detained the business’s 34-year-old owner, who was subsequently brought before a judge.

The owner was ordered held in custody pending further legal proceedings on suspicion of causing death through negligence, according to local Turkish reporting.

Investigators are examining allegations that Yeter may have been instructed to perform maintenance work outside her normal responsibilities.

There are also unconfirmed allegations that she was working without proper employment insurance.

Neither allegation has been established in court, and authorities have not publicly released a complete account of the safety measures in place when the accident happened.

The investigation has also reportedly expanded to include questions about Yeter’s initial medical treatment.

Local newspaper Çorum Haber reported that authorities opened an inquiry involving emergency department doctors after questions emerged about whether her internal injuries were identified quickly enough.

However, no medical negligence finding has been announced, and it remains unclear whether any healthcare workers will face disciplinary or criminal proceedings.

The case has drawn attention to the dangers posed by industrial equipment used in seemingly ordinary entertainment venues.

Bowling pin-setting machines contain powerful moving components designed to collect fallen pins, clear the lane and reset the equipment after each frame.

Although these systems usually operate behind the scenes, they can present serious hazards during maintenance if machinery is not properly shut down and secured against unexpected movement.

Workplace safety procedures generally require equipment to be isolated from its power source before employees attempt repairs or enter areas containing dangerous moving parts.

Investigators have not yet determined whether those procedures were followed in Yeter’s case.

Following her death, relatives and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes.

Yeter’s funeral was held at Akşemseddin Mosque in Çorum, and she was buried at Ulu Cemetery.

Her death has left loved ones grieving a young woman whose wedding plans were replaced by a funeral, while investigators work to determine whether the accident could have been prevented.

With the business owner in custody and questions surrounding her medical treatment still unresolved, the case remains under investigation.
