A troubling disappearance in the Bahamas has taken a dramatic turn after the husband of a missing American woman was taken into custody—raising even more questions about what really happened at sea.
Authorities confirmed that a U.S. man was arrested on April 8 in connection with the disappearance of Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old woman who vanished during a boat trip over the weekend.
Her husband, Brian Hooker, has been identified as the man now in custody.
According to police, the couple had left Hope Town on the evening of April 4 in a small boat, heading toward Elbow Cay. What happened next is at the center of an ongoing investigation.
Brian told authorities that Lynette accidentally fell overboard—reportedly with the boat’s keys—leaving him stranded. He claims he was forced to paddle back to shore alone and alert authorities the following morning.
Police say strong currents may have quickly carried her away, and she was lost from sight.
But the case has only grown more complicated.
Brian’s attorney says he “categorically denies any wrongdoing” and insists he has been fully cooperating with investigators. The attorney also pushed back on concerns raised by Lynette’s daughter, who has publicly questioned the circumstances surrounding her mother’s disappearance.
The daughter has called for a full investigation, saying she wants answers—and raising concerns about the couple’s past, though details remain unclear.
Meanwhile, search efforts for Lynette are still ongoing.
Multiple agencies—including local police, defense forces, rescue teams, and the U.S. Coast Guard—have been scouring the area by land, air, and sea. Drones and divers have also been deployed in hopes of finding any trace of her.
At the same time, the U.S. Coast Guard has launched a separate criminal investigation, signaling the seriousness of the case.
