Bill Cosby Faced with ‘Cash Crisis’

Bill Cosby’s legal nightmare just took another explosive turn — and this time, it’s hitting his wallet hard.

A Los Angeles jury has ordered the disgraced comedy icon to pay more than $59 million in civil damages to a former waitress who accused him of a 1972 assault, delivering a crushing financial blow to the once-beloved TV star. The verdict includes $19.25 million in compensatory damages and a staggering $40 million in punitive damages, sending shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond.

Behind the scenes, insiders say Cosby’s financial situation is far from what it once was. The man once dubbed “America’s Dad” — thanks to his role on “The Cosby Show” — reportedly saw his fortune shrink dramatically over the years, with mounting legal fees and a lack of income taking a serious toll. Estimates suggest his wealth had already dropped significantly before this latest courtroom loss.

The case itself stretches back decades. Plaintiff Donna Motsinger told the court she met Cosby while working at a California restaurant, alleging he later drugged and assaulted her after a performance. After more than five decades, she said the verdict finally delivered long-awaited justice, calling the payout “icing on the cake.”

A key moment in the case came from Cosby’s own past testimony. During a deposition, he admitted under oath that he obtained Quaaludes from a doctor — a revelation that prosecutors have long argued supports claims he used drugs in encounters with women.

Motsinger filed her lawsuit in 2023 after California expanded its statute of limitations for sexual assault cases, opening the door for older claims to be heard.

Cosby, now 88, has consistently denied all allegations against him. His legal team is already gearing up for a fight, insisting the verdict is flawed and vowing to appeal. Attorney Jennifer Bonjean argued in court that Cosby’s financial status has been overstated and pushed back on the narrative surrounding the case.

“This is not about providing deterrence,” she told jurors, emphasizing his age and health.

The ruling adds yet another chapter to Cosby’s long and controversial legal saga. In 2018, he was convicted in a separate case involving Andrea Constand, but that conviction was later overturned on appeal after he served three years in prison.

Now, with tens of millions on the line and another appeal looming, Cosby’s legal battles — and financial future — remain very much in question.
