A terrifying chain-reaction crash turned a major Colorado highway into a scene straight out of a disaster movie Tuesday, after a staggering 70 vehicles piled into each other in blinding winter conditions — leaving multiple people injured and at least one car dangling off the ground.

The massive wreck unfolded along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Clear Creek County, roughly 50 miles west of Denver, as snow and slick roads triggered what authorities describe as a catastrophic domino effect. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to find twisted metal, crushed semitrucks, and debris scattered across the highway.

At least 19 people were evaluated at the scene, with eight rushed to nearby hospitals. Officials confirmed one person suffered serious injuries, though the full extent of the damage is still coming into focus.

Photos released by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office show a jaw-dropping scene — vehicles stacked and smashed together, with one left partially suspended in midair, highlighting just how violent the impact was.

The aftermath brought traffic to a standstill, forcing officials to shut down the eastbound stretch of I-70 for hours while first responders worked frantically to treat victims and clear the wreckage.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what sparked the massive pile-up, but dangerous winter weather is believed to have played a major role in the chaos.
