A 27-year-old Brazilian influencer has died after falling from the 27th floor of a high-rise building in Dubai, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death.
Kauana Bilhar, a travel content creator and model from Itajaí on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, Brazil, had built a sizable social media following by sharing glimpses of her trips and life abroad.
Dubai authorities are now investigating what led to her fatal fall. According to Brazilian outlet ND Mais, investigators have not ruled out any possibility, including an accident, suicide, homicide or femicide.
The exact date of Bilhar’s death has not been publicly confirmed.
As questions surrounding the tragedy continue to spread online, Bilhar’s mother, Darla Bilhar, is pleading with the public to stop circulating rumors and show respect for her daughter and the family’s grief.
Darla initially did not plan to address the situation publicly. However, she said she felt forced to speak after seeing people share claims, judgments and personal information about her daughter without the family’s permission.
In an emotional Instagram video posted Thursday, July 9, the grieving mother said she was struggling to cope with the loss while also watching strangers criticize her daughter.
“It is with my soul in pieces that I come to speak out,” Darla said in comments translated from Portuguese.
“While I try to find the strength to face the greatest pain a mother can feel, I have to watch my daughter’s memory being judged, exposed, and disrespected by people who did not know her story.”
Darla asked social media users to stop spreading unconfirmed reports while investigators continue working to determine what happened.
She also urged news organizations to report responsibly and avoid treating speculation as fact.
“Informing is different from judging. Reporting is different from condemning,” she said.
“To all those who are spreading rumors or issuing opinions without knowing the facts, I ask only one thing: have empathy.”
Darla warned that she plans to pursue legal action against anyone who makes false or defamatory claims about her daughter.
“My daughter deserves respect,” she continued. “She can no longer respond to the accusations, the malicious comments, the stories being created about her.”
“Those who truly knew her know the kind of person she was, her dreams, her humanity.”
“I will fight with all my strength to defend my daughter’s honor,” she concluded.
Darla has since traveled to Dubai to follow the police investigation and make arrangements to return her daughter’s body to Brazil.
Just weeks before her death, Kauana announced her engagement to her followers in June. The engagement announcement was the final post shared on that Instagram account.
Authorities have not yet publicly explained what caused Bilhar to fall, and the investigation remains ongoing.
