Pedestrian Crushed by Public Bus as Unsuspecting Driver Leaves Scene

A 58-year-old man was killed after being struck by an MTA bus in Brooklyn Saturday night, according to police.

The deadly incident happened around 8:15 p.m. near Clarendon Road and Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush.

Police said the man stepped off the curb as a B44 bus was pulling away from a stop.

He was struck by the bus and then run over by its rear wheels, authorities said.

The 43-year-old bus driver continued driving because she apparently did not realize she had hit someone, according to the NYPD.

Investigators said it remains unclear exactly why the victim stepped into the roadway. Police are looking into whether he may have been intoxicated or simply walked off the sidewalk by accident.

Emergency crews rushed the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, but doctors were unable to save him.

His name had not been publicly released as of Sunday afternoon because authorities were still notifying his family.

A friend of the victim told News 12 that he was well known in the Flatbush neighborhood and remembered him as someone who was always willing to help others.

“He was a very nice person. He helped everyone,” the friend said.

The NYPD is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
