A family getaway to a popular Pennsylvania waterpark resort ended in unimaginable tragedy when a mother allegedly stabbed her husband and their 3-year-old son to death inside their hotel room before making a chilling 911 call.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda, Pennsylvania, is facing two counts of criminal homicide following the discovery of her husband, Charles Harrison, and their young son’s bodies at Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains on Monday, October 12.
According to a criminal complaint, Harrison called emergency dispatchers around 3:13 p.m. and reported that she was suicidal.
“My husband and son are already gone,” she allegedly told the dispatcher.
Pocono Township police rushed to Room 2030 at the resort in Scotrun, where they discovered a horrifying scene.
Charles Harrison was found dead with multiple stab wounds to his chest. Their 3-year-old son was discovered nearby with an apparent stab wound to his chest.
Investigators recovered two knives, including a larger kitchen knife, along with several bottles of medication and other evidence from the room.
Harrison was found with injuries to her wrists and neck that authorities believe were self-inflicted. She was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment.
According to court documents, Harrison also made troubling statements to emergency responders, expressing regret over what had happened and describing her desire to have a happy family.
The family had reportedly been staying at the resort for several weeks before the killings.
At a news conference Tuesday, Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso described the incident as a “violent domestic tragedy.”
“This was a violent domestic tragedy in which two people, the boy and the father, lost their lives,” Mancuso said.
He emphasized that investigators believe the violence was confined to the family and that there is no continuing threat to resort guests or the surrounding community.
Great Wolf Lodge, known for its indoor waterparks and family-friendly attractions, issued a statement expressing sorrow over the deaths.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by a tragic domestic incident that occurred yesterday in a guest room at our resort in the Pocono Mountains,” a spokesperson said.
The company confirmed that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and described the killings as an isolated family incident.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected,” the statement continued.
The resort is a popular destination for families visiting northeastern Pennsylvania, offering indoor water attractions, restaurants, and overnight accommodations.
Authorities have not publicly identified a motive for the alleged killings, and investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the deaths.
Harrison remained hospitalized under police custody as of Wednesday, October 14. It was not immediately clear when she would make her first court appearance or whether she had obtained legal representation.
