A horrifying chain of events in India turned a late-night crash into an even deadlier disaster, leaving at least eight people dead after a speeding car slammed into a crowd trying to help.
The tragedy unfolded in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state, along a road in the Ambedkar Nagar district late Tuesday night. What started as a motorcycle accident quickly spiraled into chaos just minutes later.
According to police, two motorbikes collided head-on near a brick kiln, leaving both riders badly injured. As locals rushed in to help — doing what many would do in a moment of crisis — a car suddenly came speeding down the road and plowed straight into the group.
The impact was devastating.
Authorities say at least six people were pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby health center, while two others who were critically injured later died at a regional medical college. Several others were also hurt in the incident.
Police officials said emergency crews responded quickly after receiving calls, with officers and locals working together to transport victims to hospitals in the area.
So far, six of the victims have been identified, while officials are still working to confirm the identities of the remaining two. The names released include Kaifi, Uttam Kumar, Aditya Kumar, Lalchand, Raju Gupta, and Chottu.
Meanwhile, the driver responsible for the deadly crash fled the scene and is still on the run. Police say an investigation is underway, and efforts are intensifying to track down whoever was behind the wheel.
It’s still unclear whether any of the people killed were the original victims of the motorcycle crash or those who stopped to help — a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly tragedy can multiply.
What should have been a moment of compassion turned into a nightmare, leaving an entire community in shock as authorities search for answers.
