Two people were stabbed Wednesday afternoon after a dispute erupted into violence at SUNY Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York, authorities said.
Westchester County Police received multiple 911 calls about the incident at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 16.
Investigators said the stabbing happened after a dispute “turned physical” on campus.
Two victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One suffered serious injuries, according to police.
Authorities initially reported that three people had been stabbed, but later corrected that information and said there were two stabbing victims.
Police took two suspects into custody and recovered a knife at the scene.
The suspects were also taken to a hospital for injuries connected to the fight, but police said neither had suffered a stab wound.
Authorities said they are not searching for any additional suspects and there is no ongoing threat to students or staff at the college.
The stabbing prompted a significant law enforcement response at the Valhalla campus and led officials to close the David Swope Student Center until further notice.
SUNY Westchester Community College officials said safety remains their top priority following the incident.
“Our top priority is ensuring a safe and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, and staff,” the college president’s office said.
The circumstances surrounding the dispute remain under investigation.
Police have not yet released the names of the victims or suspects or said what may have sparked the confrontation.
