Australian TV and radio star Carrie Bickmore is opening up about the terrifying head injury that left her covered in blood, needing emergency treatment, and eventually plastic surgery after what started as a simple late-night trip for water.

The beloved 45-year-old host shocked fans when she revealed she accidentally smashed her head into the corner of a wall so hard that blood immediately began “spurting” from her head.

And according to Bickmore, the scene inside her home looked straight out of a horror movie.

“Looked like a crime scene,” she admitted while sharing graphic photos of the nasty wound on Instagram.

The gruesome accident happened just before she boarded a flight for a family vacation to Sri Lanka. Bickmore explained that she got out of bed in the middle of the night for water, misjudged the wall in the dark, and slammed directly into it.

But the nightmare did not end there.

“I walked into it with such force that as I fell, I collected a lamp with me,” she revealed during an episode of her radio show, Carrie & Tommy.

The impact left a deep gash on the side of her head, and Bickmore said she could actually feel the blood pouring down her face.

“I felt it spurting out,” she recalled. “It dripped all down my eye.”

Paramedics rushed to help the TV personality and temporarily glued the wound shut before her overseas trip. But things quickly went downhill after she discovered the injury was far worse than anyone initially thought.

Bickmore later learned she had damaged a nerve in her forehead, and the wound refused to heal properly. To make matters even worse, she said another traveler accidentally dropped a carry-on suitcase directly onto her injured head during the vacation.

“God it hurt,” she joked online.

The accident turned the relaxing getaway into a stressful recovery process. Bickmore said she was unable to wash her hair, swim, or even get the wound wet for more than a week.

Eventually, doctors delivered more bad news.

A plastic surgeon reportedly told the TV star that the original glue treatment had done “absolutely nothing” because the cut was so deep. Surgeons had to remove the glue completely and stitch the damaged nerve and layers of skin back together properly.

Despite the brutal ordeal, Bickmore has managed to keep her sense of humor through it all.

“Scars are hot yeh?” she joked while teasing that she still had the perfect “face for radio.”

And thankfully, the popular host now appears to be recovering well.

Just days after sharing the shocking details of her injury, Bickmore posted vacation photos showing herself riding a jet ski, posing in a bikini, and even conquering her fear of heights during a hot air balloon ride.

“Apparently I jet ski now,” she laughed in the caption.

Fans flooded her comments with support, with many stunned that such a terrifying injury came from something as ordinary as walking into a wall in the middle of the night.
