A tragic accident at the Royal Windsor Horse Show has left the royal family and military community in mourning after a soldier from the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, was killed during a live performance attended by senior royals.
The heartbreaking incident happened Friday evening in Berkshire during the prestigious event, which was attended by King Charles, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
According to reports from the BBC citing Thames Valley Police, the soldier had just finished performing and was preparing to leave the arena on horseback when he suddenly fell from the animal under circumstances that are still unclear.
Emergency crews rushed to help and immediately treated the rider at the scene, but his injuries were devastating. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the showground.
In a statement, the military confirmed the devastating news: “It is with deep regret that we announce a member of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery died on Friday 15 May, following a tragic incident at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.”
Officials also confirmed the soldier’s family has been notified.
Members of the royal family were reportedly inside the arena at the time of the accident, though they were not informed of the soldier’s death until later.
